SOx and HCl Control
SOx emissions are produced during the fossil fuel combustion process, which releases both SO2 and SO3 into the atmosphere. These SOx emissions are then carried large distances downwind, contributing to the formation of acid rain and regional haze, as well as the creation of fine particulates (PM 2.5) in the atmosphere, which reduces visibility at national parks and wildlife refuges.
New and existing national, state, and local regulations mandate stringent limits on the release of SOx emissions to protect the health of the public, and to ensure compliance with national visibility standards. Nalco Mobotec’s patented technology achieves significant SOx reductions at a much lower cost than other technologies such as wet or dry scrubbers, resulting in improved air quality, reduced acid rain, and superior visibility throughout national parks and scenic wildlife areas.
To Reduce SOx Emissions, Nalco Mobotec Improved Furnace Sorbent Injection Technology
Nalco Mobotec can provide a simple, practical, and very low-capital-cost solution for reducing SO2 and SO3 emissions on coal-fired boilers—particularly compared to other desulfurization technologies such as wet or dry scrubbers. The Nalco Mobotec Furnace Sorbent Injection (FSI) System is a simple, practical solution for reducing SOx emissions on coal-fired boilers—at a significantly lower capital cost than technologies such as wet or dry scrubbers. The patented FSI System allows us to introduce a variety of chemistries into the boiler furnace that reduce SOx emissions by more than 50 percent.
When combined with our Rotating Opposed Fired Air (ROFA®) System design, sorbent utilization is maximized, allowing injection of minimal sorbent quantity. Excellent mixing provides SO2 emission reductions of up to 80 percent and SO3 reductions greater than 90 percent, along with substantial reductions of NOx, particulate and mercury emissions.
ROFA technology greatly increases mixing and turbulence, providing an even greater degree of contact between the lime, limestone or specialty sorbents and the flue gas. This enhances SO2 capture and reduces the amount of sorbent needed to achieve the required emission limit. Reduction of SO2 and other emissions from the installation of our ROFA/FSI technology is easily visualized with the help of our Computational Fluids Dynamics model.
Nalco Mobotec’s experts work with your technical and management personnel to provide the most cost-effective solution for meeting air quality requirements. For further information on our technologies for SO2 and SO3 reductions, please refer to the Contact Us page.
